The novel opens with a shocking hostage situation at the police station, where Sara and Jeffrey find themselves at the mercy of masked gunmen. As the tension builds, the story alternates between the present crisis and flashbacks to a weekend from Sara and Jeffrey’s past, one that reveals dark secrets about Jeffrey’s hometown and the people he once trusted.
Slaughter masterfully balances suspense with character development, peeling back layers of Jeffrey and Sara’s complex relationship while weaving in plenty of twists. While this book is less graphic than others in the series, it still packs a psychological punch.
If you enjoy crime thrillers with compelling backstories and high-stakes action, Indelible is a must-read.
