A History of Wild Places

A History of Wild Places is an eerie and atmospheric novel about isolation, cult-like communities, and the dangers of blind faith.
Years ago, children’s author Maggie St. James disappeared without a trace. When tracker Travis Wren is hired to find her, he stumbles upon the secluded community of Pastoral—only to vanish himself. Years later, Theo, a member of the community, discovers Travis’ abandoned truck and starts questioning everything he’s been taught.
The first half of the book is gripping, but the second half slows down, losing some of its initial intrigue. While the premise is fascinating, the execution didn’t fully captivate me. Fans of slow-burn mysteries with an unsettling edge may still find it worth reading.
