Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

There's something about Gabrielle Zevin's writing that pulls me in and holds on to my heart until the very last page. This is a story about friendship, work, joy, love, tragedy, perseverance, grief, and video games. Told over the span of three decades, we follow Sadie and Sam, from video game playmates in childhood to inseparable business partners designing their very own and soon-to-be very successful video game(s) along with their friend and producer, Marx. The story is mostly told from Sadie and Sam's points of view, giving you front row seats to their never ending cycle of friends, from complicated business partners to friends again. Nevertheless, although you want to shake some sense into them at times, you also get a profound understanding of each character and their flaws.

Although video games are at the center of the book, what really appealed to me were the relationships, their challenges, and their successes that emerged from the story. If you have a good understanding of 80s and 90s video games, you may enjoy this book even more, but Gabrielle Zevin did a great job at getting me to care anyway. This complicated, heartbreaking, but beautifully written book is worth reading.

Bottom line, I would recommend this book.

The Storied Life of AJ Firky is great for book lovers. But it also makes you think. What would you do if you were in their shoes? It's definitely a book ... Read Full Review »
