I love Simone St. James. She knows how to write a story that will give you chills, and this one makes no exceptions. 1982: Upstate New York: Viv is working the night shift at the Sun Down Motel when she vanishes in the middle of the night. 2017: Nearly 35 years later, Carly recently lost her mother and is determined to figure out what happened to her aunt Viv, whom no one ever talks about. "Stop writing about me." "You first." Once in a while, you grab a book that completely draws you in and doesn't let up until the very last page. Tia Williams' Seven Days in June was one of those books for me. Eva Mercier is a single mom and an erotica author famous for her "Cursed" series. This was my first book from Simone St. James, and it won't be my last. I was so intrigued by the story of the girls in 1950 and the infamous Mary Hand. I can honestly say that I don't remember the last time a booking creeped me out this much, and I did not want to put it down. The only missing piece for me was Lady Loon. I wish we had more information on her, as she just disappeared from the story quite early on. I'm u... Read Full Review »

What a wonderful debut for Heather Marshall. I hope she continues to write Canadian historical fiction, because I am here for it! This book was highly recommended by the Canadian bookstagram community, and I was recommending it before having even read it. Is there historical fiction about abortion rights in Canada? Yes please! Now that I have read it, this book is about so much more than that. It's about motherhood, co... Read Full Review »

Things We Do in the Dark

An OK book by Jennifer Hillier. This book technically had all the elements I love in a thriller (dual point of view, dual timeline, a true-crime podcast reference), but for some reason it just didn't capture my attention all that much. It was still an enjoyable read, and even though I wasn't surprised by much of it, the story is still interesting and worth reading.

Lessons in Chemistry

This was a great book by Bonnie Garmus! Lessons in chemistry have been on my shelf for a year. I went in kind of blind, and it was honestly a very good read. What I liked: The writing was good and entertaining; I did not see the twist in Chapter 11 coming, and just like that, the storyline changed instantly for me; Six-Thirty, the dog, is delightful; I loved how unapologetic Elizabeth was; and the ending left a smile o...
