Karin Slaughter is an American crime writer, best known for her suspenseful and gritty novels. She was born on January 6, 1971, in Georgia, and grew up in a small town. She received her Bachelor's degree in English from Georgia State University and went on to work in several different fields, including real estate and advertising. In 2001, she published her first novel, "Blindsighted," which introduced readers to her popular character, detective Will Trent. Since then, Slaughter has written over 20 novels, many of which have been New York Times bestsellers. She is known for her graphic depictions of violence and her ability to create complex and flawed characters. Slaughter continues to write and live in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the second book of the series, we find Sara, Jeffrey, and Lena trying to move on from their last case, which left no one unscathed. In true Slaughter fashion, the action begins within the first chapter with the attempted murder of a teenage boy in the community skating rink parking lot by 13 year old Jenny. I don't know how Karin Slaughter does it, but book after book, I'm hooked after just one chapter. This book starts almost 7 months after Kisscut's ending, where we follow Jeffrey and Sara as they try to figure out what hides behind a series of suspicious suicides on campus and a family tragedy that hits too close to home. This is an interesting book by Karin Slaughter, but it left me with a few unanswered questions. The book starts at the police station with Sara trying to win back Jeff, but she's interrupted by masked men walking in, shooting a police officer, and keeping them all hostage.
